PurposeThis study aims to investigate the influence of digital transformation on the overall financial performance of firms, with a specific focus on Chinese-listed companies from 2010 to 2021. It seeks to understand the impacts on various accounting and financial indicators in emerging economies such as China.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a text-mining approach to construct a digital transformation index based on the data sample of 11,814 firm-year observations from China’s A-share listed companies. This index serves as a proxy to measure the extent of digital transformation and its impact on financial performance and health.FindingsThe findings indicate that digital transformation significantly enhances overall financial performance and health, as evidenced by increased profitability, reduced operational costs, and lowered financial risks. The study reveals a time-lagged effect, where the benefits of digital transformation become more apparent after about one year. Further analysis shows that the value of digital transformation is more evident in a firm’s asset items. This raises the possibility of recognising the by-product, such as data resources, in the digital transformation process.Originality/valueThis research offers a unique contribution by linking digital transformation to financial performance using a large dataset from China's A-share listed firms. Doing so enhances our understanding of the tangible effects of digital transformation on corporate performance. Furthermore, this research provides valuable insights for the advancement of future accounting practices and the development of standards.

This study aims to investigate the influence of entrepreneurship on innovation competencies in students. Using a descriptive, non-experimental research design with a quantitative relational approach, the research involved a participant pool of students from the Universidad Nacional Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza de Amazonas, totaling 310 individuals. To stimulate entrepreneurship that contributes to economic growth, it is essential to nurture entrepreneurship competencies among university students. Data collection utilized a Likert scale questionnaire, and the analysis employed SPSS and PLS statistical software. Results revealed that 60.7% of students fell within the 21 to 25 age range, with 50% receiving an income between S/. 500 to S/. 1500 soles from their parents and 48.8% obtaining income from the Cuna Más program. The PLS findings reveal a substantial impact of entrepreneurship on university students' innovation competencies, with correlations of 0.756 for knowledge generation, 0.736 for knowledge assimilation, 0.699 for knowledge partnership, and 0.756 for reorganization of knowledge. This highlights the critical importance of emphasizing entrepreneurial skills in university education. The research addresses a global literature gap on the impact of entrepreneurial competencies in establishing innovative businesses, aiming to provide empirical evidence linking open innovation dynamics and entrepreneurship. Anticipated outcomes underscore how pedagogical approaches can enhance students' capacity to generate new value for organizations or society through fostering innovative thinking and behavior.

The enhancement of digital transformation is of paramount importance for business development. This study employs machine learning to establish a predictive model for digital transformation, investigates crucial factors that influence digital transformation, and proposes corresponding improvement strategies. Initially, four commonly used machine learning algorithms are compared, revealing that the Extreme tree classification (ETC) algorithm exhibits the most accurate prediction. Subsequently, through correlation analysis and recursive elimination, key features that impact digital transformation are selected resulting in the corresponding feature subset. Shapley Additive Explanation (SHAP) values are then employed to perform an interpretable analysis on the predictive model, elucidating the effects of each key feature on digital transformation and obtaining critical feature values. Lastly, informed by practical considerations, we propose a quantitative adjustment strategy to enhance the degree of digital transformation in enterprises, which provides guidance for digital development.
