The Impact of Powering an Engine with Fuels from Renewable Energy Sources including its Software Modification on a Drive Unit Performance Parameters

Abstract: The application of fuels from renewable energy sources for combustion engine powering involves a great demand for this kind of energy while its production infrastructure remains underdeveloped. The use of this kind of fuel is supposed to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and the depletion of natural resources and to increase the share of renewable energy sources in total energy consumption and thus support sustainable development in Europe. This study presents the results of research on selected performa… Show more

“…This, however, does not meet the growing transport demand [3]. As the study shows, introduction of the EMS is associated with transport cost reduction, CO2 emission reduction [4][5][6][7][8] and decreasing the number of vehicles on the road [3,9].…”

“…In the EU 72.8% of the total emission of transport related harmful substances comes from passenger cars, whereas heavy vehicles account for 18.8% of emission. Assuming that 5.1mld [t] accounts for 100% of transport related CO2 emission, the global share of particular transport forms is as follows [16]:…”

“…Bus transport system operations involve many different costs including those involved in application of lubrication oils. In the case of relatively big bus combustion engines and a short time (coverage, service life) between successive oil changes this is a problem significant both in terms of economy and ecology [10][11][12][13][14]. Hence, many authors take up the subject of engine lubricants, the possibility of extending their operation time, and the models of transport means operation and maintenance processes often include the costs of lubrication oils as a separate cost category [1,[10][11].…”
