The impact of phase change materials assisted night purge ventilation on the indoor thermal conditions of office buildings in hot-arid climates

Abstract: 14Night purge ventilation is an effective technique for passive cooling, which is typically used 15 in office buildings with the aim of reducing the daytime temperature, and thereby reducing 16 the cooling load of HVAC systems. This method uses the cool of the night to release the 17 warmth stored in the thermal mass during the day. That is, this system optimizes the energy 18 storage properties of thermal masses to provide thermal comfort in interior spaces. The 19 purpose of this study is to determine the im… Show more

“…Quanto a ventilação noturna, Nazi et al (2017) determinou que seu uso possuiu melhor desempenho quando associado a PCMs nas paredes externas. A ventilação noturna também é valorizada por Solgi et al (2017Solgi et al ( , 2019a como uma técnica produtiva de resfriamento passivo que demonstra um alto potencial de redução de cargas de resfriamento.…”

“…Solgi et al [31,32] combined PCMs and NV in office buildings of a hot-arid climate, resulting in a 45.5% reduction of the annual cooling load. It illustrated that the application of PCMs throughout the whole building contributed to reducing the cooling load, except for ground floors, where the addition of PCMs resulted in an increase of the cooling load.…”
