The extant literature has highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer between a buyer and its supply network for strengthening supply chain competence. This is a bi-directional exchange where the buyer and supply network each act as the sender and receiver of knowledge. Prior research has however largely focused on the knowledge recipient only. We consider both sender and recipient using two key dynamic capabilities related to knowledge transfer: (i) desorptive capacity, which enables the safe transfer of knowledge from the sender; and, (ii) absorptive capacity, which enables the acquisition and assimilation of external knowledge by the recipient. Using the concept of 'fit', we investigate whether organizations strengthen supply chain competence when their desorptive capacity exceeds that of their supply network´s (positive misfit) and consider the moderating role of the organization's and supply network's absorptive capacity. Multiple regression analysis of survey data from 250 firms identifies an inverted U-shaped relationship between positive desorptive capacity misfit and supply chain competence. Further, this relationship is shown to be moderated by the supply network's absorptive capacity level. The paper furthers our understanding of supply chain knowledge management enabling buyers and their supply networks to achieve more successful knowledge transfer outcomes.

The impact of interwoven integration practices on supply chain value addition and firm performance

Drawing on the supply chain (SC) management literature, this article conceptualizes and empirically tests a framework that shows how both external and internal integration practices are significant and positively associated with SC value addition and firm performance. The framework also tests the impact of value addition as a reinforcing factor on firm performance. The outcome of this investigation is interesting for both SC researchers and practitioners because the current SC integration literature is conflicting. A structural equation modeling technique, using a sample of 366 large-scale manufacturing companies based in India, is considered in this paper to test the framework. The results support all five research hypotheses which indicate that paramount firm performance requires tight external and internal integration and higher level of value addition. Although the external integration is found to be rather influential than the internal integration, SC players need to have integrated internal business processes for tight external integration. This paper also explains the implication of collective planning and decision making to respond promptly to external market events and reveals the importance of value addition.

This paper aims to investigate the impact of environmental policy and training aspects on hotels' sustainability practices, as well as the impact of these practices on their environmental and financial performance. Based on survey data from 312 managers operating in tourism and hospitality industry, this study applies structural equation modelling. Empirical results reveal that hotels' environmental policy and training aspects are positively related to sustainability practices. Environmental communication has almost equal degree of impact on resource and energy conservation, whereas both resource conservation and energy conservation have a significant positive impact on both environmental and financial performance. The main findings of this research highlight that hotels are increasingly considering sustainability issues in their business models and strategies. These findings provide practical managerial implications for the development of tourism and hospitality industry in emerging countries.
