The paper presents a calculation technique and projections on the indices of social efficiency of sustainable land management. The relevance of this study is determined by the authors' technique measuring social, economic and environmental efficiency parity, and its implementation prospects in the context of more sustainable land management in Ukraine as a country that has tremendous potential for its use with a potential worldwide impact on food markets. The paper is aimed at presenting the technique of projecting social efficiency of land management in the context of sustainable development. Projections about the integral efficiency of land management are made according to the developed criteria (productivity, motivation, consistency) using the map of projected effects using conventional and relative, as well as absolute input parameters. This enables improved information support during the formation of national sustainable development strategy of land relations development. The authors substantiate the methodological approaches to planning parameters of land use in dynamics, which are based on determining the impact, including social one, and evaluation of social efficiency of sustainable land management, which allow diagnostics at meso-and macroeconomic scale and can also become tools for scenario modeling.

Mountainous peatlands are one of the most important terrestrial ecosystems for carbon storage and play an important role in the global carbon cycle. An insight into the carbon cycle of peat swamps located in mountainous regions can be obtained by studying the distribution of soil organic carbon (SOC) and its relationships with environmental factors. This study focused on the development conditions of peat swamps in the Gahai wetlands, located on the Zoigê Plateau, China, with four different altitudinal gradients as experimental sample sites. The distribution of SOC and its relationship with environmental factors were analysed through vegetation surveys and a generalized additive model (GAM). The results show that with increasing altitude, soil temperature decreased while the soil pH and bulk density initially decreased then increased. On the contrary, the topographic wetness index (TWI), SOC content, above-ground biomass and litter count initially increased then decreased. The SOC content of the 0-30 cm soil layer was in the range 226-330 g•kg −1 (coefficient of variation (CV) = 21.4%), and the 30-60 cm layer was 178-257 g•kg −1 (CV = 17.5%) and was significantly correlated (p < .05) with above-ground biomass and litter count. Meanwhile, the SOC content in the 60-90 cm soil layer was in the range 132-167 g•kg −1 (CV = 9.2%) with a significant correlation (p < .05) with soil temperature, pH, bulk density and topographic moisture index. The study showed that the SOC content exhibited more pronounced spatial patterns with increasing altitude, with the peak value in the shallow soil layer appearing in lower elevation areas compared with the deep soil layer. The level of variation changed from medium to low, reflecting the stable mechanism for maintaining SOC within the heterogeneous peat swamp environment.

Context Since entering the process of industrialization, human activities have interfered with the original ecological environment all the time, and the expansion of cities has also continuously impacted the ecological service function. Objectives In order to maintain the balance of the ecosystem and the stability of ecological security, it is very important to establish an ecological security network (ESN), particularly in the composite transitional geospace. To address this, we proposed a framework for mountainous transitional geospace by morphological spatial pattern analysis and circuit theory. Methods We take Taihang mountain area as a case, identify sources based on landscape connectivity, establish a suitable evaluation system for the mountainous transitional geospace. Then, using circuit theory to quantitate ecological key nodes and constructing the ESN. Results We found 34 ecological sources and use eight factors to form a resistance surface. The corridors primarily run north-south on the east and west, but display a mesh-like layout in the central and southern parts. Additionally, pinch points are primarily in plains or plateaus, while barriers are mainly in basins and mountainous areas. These elements integrated an ESN of "four zones and three lines". Conclusions Pay more attention to the key ecological pinch point areas and ecological barrier restoration areas, particularly basin and mountainous area. Furthermore, the protection and resotoration of cultivated land are also important to the advance of ecological security. The study provides recommendations for protection and restoration work in the Taihang Mountain area, which hold both theoretical and practical significance for ecological planning.
