The impact of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy with hepatitis B virus infection on perinatal outcomes

Abstract: IntroductionTo investigate the impact of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on perinatal outcomes.MethodsIn the study, 200 pregnant women were divided into four groups, including 50 cases with ICP and HBV infection, 50 cases with ICP, 50 cases with HBV infection, and 50 healthy pregnancies. The delivery process and perinatal outcomes were analyzed among different groups.ResultsWhen compared to the healthy pregnancy group, significantly increased rates of prematur… Show more

“…Interestingly, there was a significant difference between the HBV-infected and the normal groups regarding mode of delivery. Here, a decreased risk of premature rupture of fetal membranes was observed in HBV-infected women compared with the normal group, whereas a previous report describes opposite findings [ 31 ]. These results suggest that HBV-infected pregnant women may maintain a good self-management level and obtain additional help from their physicians and families.…”

“…In a previous study conducted by Tse et al, [ 31 ] a high risk of antepartum hemorrhage had been identified to be associated with HBV infection, which may be related to the chronic inflammatory state in this population. The close association of ICP with HBV has also been explored in other observations, [ 32 ] and the inflammation caused by chronic HBV infection was responsible for this. Thrombocytopenia and anemia are the common complications in patients with liver stiffness.…”

“…As these outcomes were rare, the odds ratios estimated crude (RR) and adjusted relative risks (aRR). Potential confounders for adjusted models were selected based on review of the literature [ 6 , 7 , 10 , 23 ]. We considered maternal age, race, country of origin, marital status, education level, parity, gravidity prepregnancy BMI, and tobacco use as potential confounders for all outcomes.…”
