“…Impulsivity is not a unidimensional concept itself, so different modalities of measurement (e.g., self-report versus objective behavioural tasks) may assess different aspects of inhibitory control ( Dawe and Loxton, 2004 ; Giel et al, 2017 ). The proposed ‘trait versus state dichotomy of impulsivity’ ( Yeo et al, 2020 ) suggests that self-report measures, like the BIS-11, capture a more trait-like representation of impulsivity, while behavioural tasks may be more dependent on state-dependent factors, such as stress. Further, neuroimaging research from children with ADHD shows that psychostimulants may be most effective at ameliorating aberrances in reward and inhibitory control circuits ( Solanto, 1998 ), which are more likely to present as changes in trait-like impulsivity than environmentally-induced state factors.…”

“…More recently, a third domain of impulsivity characterised as the ‘impulsive personality trait’ relates to the persisting underlying tendency to behave impulsively ( MacKillop et al, 2016 ). This differs from ‘state impulsivity’, which can be modulated by external influences ( Yeo et al, 2020 ).…”

“…In association, negative urgency-the tendency to act impulsively in the face of negative emotions-seems to be in close relation with uncontrolled eating [7,8]. Individuals with higher levels of negative urgency are at greater risk of engaging in more frequent binge-eating [9].…”

“…In the long run, concerns of DM relapse [18], inadequate weight loss, or weight regain also need to be addressed [19]. Studies have shown that elevated levels of distress secondary to COVID-19 can lead to emotional dysregulation, leading to increased impulsivity and binge eating symptoms before and after bariatric surgery [20,21].…”
