The immediate and short-term effects of dynamic taping on pain, endurance, disability, mobility and kinesiophobia in individuals with chronic non-specific low back pain: A randomized controlled trial

Abstract: Evidence suggests that the application of Kinesio Tape (KT) on patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) is inconclusive. Dynamic tape (DT) is a relatively new treatment technique, which is increasingly being used as an adjunctive method to treat musculoskeletal problems. To our knowledge, no study has investigated the application of DT in individuals with CNLBP. To compare the immediate and short-term effects of DT versus KT and no tape among patients with CNLBP on pain, endurance, disability, m… Show more

“…Kinesiophobia, also called “fear of movement or activity,” is defined as an excessive fear of physical movement, expecting or feeling of vulnerability to painful injury [ 17 ]. A reciprocal process occurs, resulting in a vicious cycle of negative thoughts and experiences, resulting in fear of movement, kinesiophobia, and catastrophic behavior [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Fear of movement may contribute to decreased muscular strength, increased postural sway, and impaired proprioception in musculoskeletal disorders [ 22 , 23 , 24 ].…”

“…Applied to the patient’s skin under tension in an elastic braid manner, it can be lengthways extended to 140% of its original length to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems, such as injuries, pain, dysfunction, and other conditions, without limiting joint mobility [ 12 , 13 ]. KT has been reported to correct joint dislocations, provide muscle support, activate endogenous pain relief systems, and eliminate tissue congestion [ 14 , 15 ]. With the continuous innovation and progress of rehabilitation methods, KT has been applied to improve low back pain during pregnancy.…”

“…Applied to patient skin under tension in the form of an elastic braid, it can be lengthways extended to 140 percent of its original length to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems, such as injury, pain, dysfunction, and a variety of other conditions, without limiting joint mobility [ 11 , 12 ]. KT can adjust joint dislocation, provides muscle support, activates the endogenous analgesia system, and eliminates congestion and effusion [ 13 , 14 ]. KT can inhibit muscle overextension, relieve muscle spasticity and fatigue, reduce abnormal muscle spasticity, and enhance joint stability; Through sensorimotor stimulation, information is transmitted to the cerebral cortex, and then the motor response is generated; By stimulating the skin mechanoreceptors, improving the sensory feedback on the attached area, strengthening the input of proprioceptive sensory information, achieving indirect regulation of nerve and muscle activities, enhancing sensory input and other advantages [ 12 , 15 ].…”
