The identification of new biomarkers for bladder cancer: A study based on TCGA and GEO datasets

Abstract: Bladder cancer (BC) is one of the most common neoplastic diseases worldwide. With the highest recurrence rate among all cancers, treatment of BC only improved a little in the last 30 years. Available biomarkers are not sensitive enough for the diagnosis of BC, whereas the standard diagnostic method, cystoscopy, is an invasive test and expensive. Hence, seeking new biomarkers of BC is urgent and challenging. With that order, we screened the overlapped differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of GSE13507 and TCGA B… Show more

“…MYH11 is a protein that participates in muscle contraction through the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate [28]. Its expression have been found to be associated with many kinds of cancer, such as lung cancer, bladder cancer [29], head and neck cancer [30] and colorectal cancer [31]. RARRES1 is also gene that dysregulated in several cancers.…”

“…We retrieved seven bioinformatics studies for BCa biomarkers based on public database analyses [9,[29][30][31][32][33][34], and we compared the biomarkers in the present study with the ones that were reported in the literature studies. We found that CRYAB and CASQ2 were so far unrecognized as biomarkers in previous studies.…”

“…The data collection process was undertaken and ended in November 2019. The retrieval criteria were rigorous, filtering with bioinformatics analysis and BCa, only 7 full-text papers were returned [9,[29][30][31][32][33][34]. On the basis of Oncomine database, 5 studies were relevant [35] and we gathered the information of the 14 hub genes from the 5 previous studies.…”

“…Previous findings have shown that in aortic tissue, destruction of MYH11 can lead to vascular smooth muscle cell loss, disorganization and hyperplasia, which is one of the mechanisms leading to thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections (6,7). In previous years, studies have indicated that mutations of the MYH11 gene are also associated with various types of cancer, including colorectal (8,9), bladder (10), laryngeal (11) and head and neck cancer (12). This may be due to the role of MYH11 role in cell migration, interaction with cell adhesion proteins and tumor suppression (13,14).…”
