THESPITZERLOCAL VOLUME LEGACY: SURVEY DESCRIPTION AND INFRARED PHOTOMETRY

Abstract: The survey description and the near-, mid-, and far-infrared flux properties are presented for the 258 galaxies in the Local Volume Legacy (LVL). LVL is a Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program that surveys the local universe out to 11 Mpc, built upon a foundation of ultraviolet, Hα, and Hubble Space Telescope imaging from 11HUGS (11 Mpc Hα and Ultraviolet Galaxy Survey) and ANGST (ACS Nearby Galaxy Survey Treasury). LVL covers an unbiased, representative, and statistically robust sample of nearby star-forming… Show more

“…These two galaxies are indeed very similar in many aspects: comparable near-IR magnitudes (K=6.25 and 6.38, respectively, see Jarrett et al 2003) and midinfrared fluxes (see Dale et al 2009) that point towards comparable stellar masses. However, they have different morphologies.…”

“…The plotted isophotes (upper right panel of Fig. 17) are based on a Spitzer IRAC1 image from the Local Volume Legacy (Dale et al 2009); the ellipse fits are based on this image, the K-band image of Knapen et al (2003), and an HST NICMOS F160W image (Martini et al 2003).…”

“…The map from the final iteration of FRUITloops was subtracted from the time-stream data and an input test map was then added into that time-stream. The test map for M 51 was the 24 µm map of M 51 from Dale et al (2009) and for M 83 it was the 5 GHz map of M 83 from Neininger et al (1993). These test maps were placed on the same pixel grid as the corresponding AzTEC maps and were convolved to the 18 resolution of those maps.…”
