The PASTICCINO genes of Arabidopsis thaliana are involved in the control of cell division and differentiation

Abstract: The control of cell division by growth regulators is critical to proper plant development. The isolation of single-gene mutants altered in the response to plant hormones should permit the identification of essential genes controlling the growth and development of plants. We have isolated mutants pasticcino belonging to 3 complementation groups (pas1, pas2, pas3) in the progeny of independent ethyl methane sulfonate and T-DNA mutagenized Arabidopsis thaliana plants. The screen was performed in the presence or a… Show more

“…As noted above, our proteomic analysis revealed a myriad of proteins related to the biosynthesis and/or function of the analyzed phytohormones, giving strong support to the important role of these regulators on gametophyte development. In the apogamous gametophyte, the histidine phosphotransfer protein AHP1, linked to cytokinin signaling was annotated (Hwang et al, 2002 ), and the protein, emb22 (also named Gurke or Pasticcino3), which is an acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1, related to cell proliferation and tissue patterning (Baud et al, 2003 ), embryo morphogenesis (Torres-Ruiz et al, 1996 ); or supressing cytokinin activity (Faure et al, 1998 ). Also the protein Cand1, required for SCF TIR activity, participating in several resposes such as response to auxin (Cheng et al, 2004 ).…”

“…According to that, FKBP42 is present in the plasma membrane and interacts with the multidrug resistance/P-glycoprotein (PGP); FKBP42 is proven to play a positive regulatory role in PGP-mediated export of auxin . Studies of the Arabidopsis pas1 mutant indicated that FKBP70 was involved in cell division through cytokinin signaling pathway . Accumulation of the heat-stress protein FKBP77 in wheat also has a negative effect on plant development, especially causing dwarfism .…”
