TheL2,3MMAuger Spectrum of Argon

Abstract: The Ar L2,s M M Auger spectrum has been recorded. A great number of satellite lines are found many of which can be assigned to Auger transitions in doubly ionized argon. Several shake-up satellites are also found in the spectrum. The relative intensities of the spectral lines are given and the intensities are compared with previous experiments and calculations.

“…As a consequence, the energy resolution of the light was not a limiting factor for the measurements. The photon energy was calibrated using literature values of the Kr 3d near-edge x-ray absorption spectrum [30], while the time-to-energy conversion was calibrated using known values of Xe and Kr Auger lines [31,32], augmented for low electron energies by the 2 D photoelectron lines of Kr corrected for the PCI shift associated with single Auger decay.…”

“…As a consequence, the energy resolution of the light was about 20 meV and hence not a limiting factor for the measurements. The monochromator was calibrated using literature values of the Kr 3d near-edge x-ray absorption spectrum [14] while the time-to-energy conversion was calibrated using known energies of Xe and Kr Auger lines [15].…”

“…Random coincident background events are subtracted using standard statistical methods. The detection energies of the hemispherical electron energy analyzers have been calibrated using the L 2,3 M 2,3 M 2,3 Auger spectrum of argon, 27 while the angular calibration of the analyzers has been determined using the well-defined minimum in the differential cross section for elastic scattering of 60 eV electrons from argon. 28 In dynamical TDCS measurements, the scattered electron is detected at a fixed forward scattering angle (θ a ) with respect to the incident electron beam direction, while ejected electron angular distributions are measured by scanning the ejected electron energy analyzer and detecting electrons at a number of different ejected electron angles (θ b ) within the scattering plane.…”
