The Hubble Catalog of Variables (HCV)

Abstract: Aims. Over its lifetime and despite not being a survey telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has obtained multi-epoch observations by multiple, diverse observing programs, providing the opportunity for a comprehensive variability search aiming to uncover new variables. We have therefore undertaken the task of creating a catalog of variable sources based on archival HST photometry. In particular, we have used version 3 of the Hubble Source Catalog (HSC), which relies on publicly available images obtained … Show more

“…The few observations that do exist suggest that the outburst was fainter or absent at shorter wavelengths. The source is not listed in the Hubble Catalog of Variables (HCV, Bonanos et al 2019), but is flagged as variable in the Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) Magellanic Clouds survey (VMC DR4, Cioni et al 2011). Variability information is listed as "NOT AVAILABLE" in the Gaia DR2 catalog (Gaia Collaboration et al 2018;Holl et al 2018).…”

“…Depending on the available data from the entire electromagnetic spectrum in each field, different AGN selection methods were used to compare the results. Part of the results in the CANDELS fields were included in the publication of Bonanos et al (2019) in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.…”
