Abstract

Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) was discovered in 1982 1 and is able to cause peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer and mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. 2,3 Almost half (44%) of the world's population have H pylori infection. 4 The risk factors of H pylori infection are low socioeconomic status, poor basic hygiene, overcrowding and East Asian ethnicity. 5 Rapid urease test (RUT) and histopathology are well-known endoscopic methods for H pylori testing. RUT needs only a urease kit test which is cheaper and takes less time for H pylori results, compared to pathology. 3 Although, RUT has 85%-95% sensitivity and 95%-100% specificity for H pylori diagnosis, it can be interfered by proton pump inhibitor (PPI). 6,7 Although histopathology is time consuming and is more expensive, it can provide crucial information of gastric
