The hypolipidemic activity of Ayurvedic medicine, Arogyavardhini vati in Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemic rats: A comparison with fenofibrate

Abstract: Background:Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor of coronary heart disease. Currently available hypolipidemic drugs have been associated with number of side effects. Arogyavardhini vati, an Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation has been used for liver disorders. Therefore, present study was designed to evaluate the effect of Arogyavardhini vati in Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in rats.Objectives:Anti-hyperlipidemic activity evaluation of Arogyavardhini vati against Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in r… Show more

“…Fenofibrate 65 mg/kg group showed statistically significant decrease in TC, TG levels with non‐significant increase in HDL‐c but no effect on LDL‐c. These results were similar to previous studies showing hypolipidaemic activity of a standard drug fenofibrate in earlier studies . Triton WR‐1339, the nonionic detergent, is a well‐known induction agent for hypercholesterolaemia in rat was selected for inducing rapid, easy and reversible (span of 1 week) hyperlipidaemia in the experimental rats.…”

“…standard drug fenofibrate in earlier studies. [1,22] Triton WR-1339, the nonionic detergent, is a well-known induction agent for hypercholesterolaemia in rat was selected for inducing rapid, easy and reversible (span of 1 week) hyperlipidaemia in the experimental rats. It leads to the accumulation of VLDL and triglycerides in plasma by inhibiting the enzyme lipoprotein lipase.…”

“…Same information was noted in a Siddha review article of Kanakavalli et al (2014). The hypo lipidemic drugs created one more major problem that is renal failure (Gupta et al, 2013). But herbals have a most important task in anti-hyper lipidemic activity and recommend that the lipid reducing action is decided through stimulating of liver cholesterol biosynthesis and decrease of lipid absorption in the intestine (Kanakavalli et al, 2014).…”
