The Human of the Future. Human’s Future. Reflections on the Raison d'ÊTRE of Transhumanism

Abstract

The article presents the analyses of the selected aspects of the raison d'être of transhumanism. It contains reflections on the essence of a human and humanity; transhumanist aspirations to create a posthuman (cybernetic man) and achieve cybernetic immortality, and discussions on the (non) human future – as soon as the progress in the development of technoscience enables the achievement of the goals assumed in this trend. The presented considerations are especially related to philosophy and Catholic Social Science. They point to the anti-Christian nature of technological interference in human development and of trying to gain control over the process of evolution, and therefore the danger of breaking the continuity of the history of homo sapiens, breaking the continuity of human history. Although reasoning about the future is risky, it has a deep educational sense with important social and practical implications – resulting in the analyzed case from the disturbing development of transhumanist thought.
