THE HOSOTANI MECHANISM IN BULK GAUGE THEORIES WITH AN ORBIFOLD EXTRA SPACE S1/Z2

Abstract: We pursue the possibility of the scenario in which the Higgs field is identified with the extra-space component of a bulk gauge field. The space-time we take is M 4 ⊗ S 1 /Z 2 . We show that a non-trivial Z 2 -parity assignment allows some of the extra-space component to have radiatively induced VEV, which strongly modifies the mass spectrum and gauge symmetry of the theory, realized by oribifolding. In particular we investigate the dynamical mass generation of zero-mode fermion and spontaneous gauge symmetry … Show more

“…Clearly an extremely attractive possibility now arises, namely to regard the Higgs scalar field as the components A a ′ 5 [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][34][35][36], for if we can bring such a model into accord with phenomenological constraints, whilst keeping it renormalizable, we will have solved the hierarchy problem. This is the possibility we will consider in more detail in sec.…”

“…[10,13] In 2001, Antoniadis, Benakli and Quirós proposed an intriguing model of electroweak interactions. [7] U(3) s ×U(3) w gauge theory is defined on M 4 ×(T 2 /Z 2 ).…”

“…One can find the SO(10) → SU(5) F × U(1) V F decomposition: 26) where Φ F (R Q ) in the right-hand sides means the field transforms as the R-dimensional representation of SU(5) F and has the U(1) V F charge Q. The superscript in the right-hand sides indicates the eigenvalues of the parity (P 0 ,P 1 ) of each field.…”
