Written from the viewpoint of a Foreign Medical School Graduate, this paper describes the use of psychiatric home visits in the Philippine Islands and the United States including a general explanation of the prevailing attitudes. Two case histories are used to illustrate the value of home visits in child psychiatry. A single home visit may be more revealing as to the cause of the pathology than numerous clinic sessions. The paper concludes with a brief literature survey followed by a summary discussion which presents the author's observations of personal gains derived from home visits.
