The high sensitivity and specificity of rapid urease test in diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection in Moroccan children

Abstract: Background and Objectives: Infesting nearly 50% of the world's population, Helicobacter pylori are thought to cause pep- tic ulcers, as well as gastricadenocarcinoma. Several diagnostic methods are available to detect this bacterium; however, at least two must be used together for an accurate diagnosis. Thisstudy evaluated the use of rapid urease test for diagnosis of H. pylori infection in a pediatric population. Materials and Methods: Five gastric biopsies were taken from children during a 2-year perio… Show more

“…Sensitivity and specificity are essential indicators of test accuracy and allow healthcare providers to determine the appropriateness of the diagnostic tool aiding in decision-making and improving healthcare for patients [ 23 ]. It is critical to use at least two diagnostic tests with high sensitivity and specificity based on the clinical situation to achieve an accurate diagnosis of the pathogen [ 24 , 25 ]. Therefore, the sensitivity, specificity, and limitations of the H. pylori detection test, which plays a critical role in the accurate diagnosis and assessment of the presence of the bacteria, are presented in Table 2 .…”

“…Among the various diagnostic tests for the detection of H. pylori infection, the rapid urease test (RUT) is a comparatively precise and rapid method and is suggested as a first-line diagnostic method [14][15][16][17][18][19]. As a "test and treat" approach was recommended for H. pylori-infected patients in the Maastricht V consensus [7], the rapidity and accuracy of the diagnostic test for H. pylori are valuable.…”
