“…Previously Riccardia georgiensis subsp. sympodea has been recorded only from Marion Island in the Prince Edward Islands archipelago (Schuster, 1989) and Île de la Possession in the Îles Crozet archipelago (Grolle, 2002) in the Subantarctic, as well as from Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands archipelago in the Antarctic (Bednarek- Ochyra et al 2000). With the extension of its range to Îles Kerguelen, R. georgiensis subsp.…”

“…Váň a (1985) extended the range of A. marionensis to Tristan da Cunha when reducing Lophozia squarrosa S.W.Arnell to synonymy with the former species name. Additionally, A. marionensis is known from Île de la Possession in the Îles Crozet archipelago (Grolle, 2002) and now its range is extended to the largest archipelago in the Subantarctic, Îles Kerguelen. Thus, at present A. marionensis may be considered as a subantarctic species, nearly-endemic to the Kerguelen Province, only slightly extending to the southern cool-temperate zone in the Southern Atlantic Ocean sector.…”

“…In the Southern Hemisphere it is primarily common in the maritime Antarctic where it extends to 71u509S on Alexander Island and it is the only hepatic known from the Continental Antarctic where it reaches its southernmost station at 77uS in Victoria Land. Outside the Antarctic C. varians occurs on most islands in the Southern Ocean, including South Georgia from whence it was described (Gottsche, 1890), Gough Island (Wace, 1961;Wace & Dickson, 1965), Tristan da Cunha (Arnell, 1958), Bouvetøya and Îles Crozet (Grolle, 2002), Îles Kerguelen (Váň a & Gremmen, 2006), Heard Island (Bergstrom & Selkirk, 1997;Váň a & Gremmen, 2005) and New Zealand (Schuster, 1996). Thus, the discovery of the species on the Prince Edward Islands completes the gap in its geographical range in the Indian Ocean sector of the Subantarctic.…”

“…In 2002, Grolle published an account of the Hepaticae of the sub-Antarctic and temperate islands of the eastern Southern Hemisphere, incorporating all the above accounts as well as unpublished collections by Gremmen. This checklist is based on the account by Grolle (2002), with one addition from unpublished data by Gremmen (Marchantia berteroana on Prince Edward Island).…”
