The Griffiths Development Scales‐Chinese (GDS‐C): A cross‐cultural comparison of developmental trajectories between Chinese and British children

Abstract: The Chinese developmental curves obtained from the GDS-C showed similarities and differences to the developmental curves from the British GMDS-ER. The development of urban Chinese children should be assessed with the culturally appropriate GDS-C.

“…The Chinese version of the GMDS was revised for use with Chinese children in 2016, based on the 2006 update to the 1996 version of the GMDS (Luiz et al, 2006). A cross-cultural comparison study confirmed that GMDS was well adapted to a Chinese context and could reliably be used to assess development in Chinese children from birth to 8 years old (Tso et al, 2018). Li et al (2020) found that the scale had good reliability and validity in the evaluation of children aged 3 to 8 years old with ASD.…”

“…The Griffiths Mental Development Scales–Chinese (GDS-C) is based on the 2006 version and revised for the Chinese population in 2016. Since then, GDS-C has been proven to be an accurate and effective test to assess the development of young children (11). Moreover, the GDS-C is also a useful assessment for evaluating the development deficits for neurodevelopment disorders involved with ASD children.…”

“…We will assess the children’s developmental states using the GDS-C 26 , which consists of six subscales: locomotor, personal-social, language, eye-hand coordination, performance and practical reasoning. The mean value of the six subscale scores is defined as the general quotient.…”
