Environmental gradients, such as exist for temperature, precipitation, and light, are known to drive plant trait variation within species (Bruna & de Andrade, 2011; Delgado‐Fernández et al, 2017; Villanueva‐Almanza et al, 2018), among species of the same genus (Cavender‐Bares et al, 2004, 2020; Mitchell et al, 2015; Savage & Cavender‐Bares, 2012; Willson et al, 2008), and across entire communities of species (Blonder et al, 2017; Cooley et al, 2004; Moles et al, 2009, 2014; Wright et al, 2004).
