The German version of the child perceptions questionnaire on oral health-related quality of life (CPQ-G11–14)

Abstract: The norm values we present provide a frame of reference for future cross-sectional studies in the general population and in patient populations with specific oral conditions when measuring OHRQoL by CPQ-G11-14 in children and adolescents aged 11 to 14 years old.

“…Adolescents reported a higher influence on functional limitations that involved difficulty in chewing firm foods and speaking. These findings reinforce the fact that the influence on OHRQoL varies according to the participant's age group, as already described by Sheiham, 48 Clementino et al, 49 and Bekes et al 50 Overall, the outcomes of the present investigation call attention to the need of identifying groups in which dental complications occur to propose a better plan of action regarding oral health strategies to their specific needs. If children and adolescents are facing problems in diverse aspects of life (such as appearance, oral function, and among others), then the available oral health programmes are not adequate in monitoring and controlling the caries disease.…”

“…The higher CPQ mean for males using self-administered questionnaire may be a random effect. We did not observe that when we reported the population-based norms using the same administration method [21]. However, from the perspective of minimal important difference in QoL assessment in dentistry (i.e., 6+ points on QoL scale; John et al 2008) the observed gender difference of 2 or 3 CPQ points is clinically not meaningful.…”

“…The study participants and their legal guardians were interviewed regarding MIH‐/DMH‐dependent PwIoF. The Child Perception Questionnaire (Bekes, John, Schaller, & Hirsch, ) served as the basis for documenting the patients' overall nutritional restrictions. The children were queried in greater detail regarding whether they experienced problems or pain with chewing solid food or with eating and drinking hot, cold, or spicy items.…”
