The Genus Pycnoporus in Indonesia

Mushrooms an be found in various places, such as litter, rotten wood, trees, and soil around residential areas. Tulung Agung Village in East Lampung Regency has various kinds of vegetation and several other abiotic factors that support the growth of mushroom. The study of mushroom’s exploration could elaborate the knowledge about mushroom diversity in resdential areas. This study aims to explore the types of mushrooms based on the description of their fruiting bodies from the residential location of Tulung Agung Village, District Pekalongan, East Lampung Regency, Lampung. The methods used were purposive sampling technique in a shady area or under the shade of a tree, documenting the mushroom fruiting bodies hat were found, and presenting mushrooms with fruiting bodies characters. After the exploration, 18 species from 14 genera of mushrooms were found, including Auricularia auricula-judae, Collybia sp., Conocybe sp., Daldinia sp., Gymnopilus sp., Marasmius sp., Marasmius haematocephalus, Mycena sp., Lepiota sp., Parasola sp., Pycnoporus sp., Trametes sp., Tremellodendron sp., and Xylaria sp. The various potentials of each type of mushrooms that were found are for food sources, traditional medicines, biodegradation of contaminants, sources of bioluminescence, and sources of various bioactive compounds. The Mushroom that were found need molecular identification to get the correct species so that the potential of Mushroom can be utilized optimally by residents based on more specific type information.

The TPKh Tenjo KPH Bogor is a production forest wood collection area and becomes a production forest for the Acacia mangium wood species. Timber harvesting activities leave a lot of tree stumps, twigs, or piles of wood that do not pass production. Environmental conditions with a lot of harvested wood residue and supported by relatively cool air temperatures and high humidity, it is suspected this area has a diversity of macroscopic fungi with various unknown potentials. This study aims to obtain data on the types of macroscopic fungi and their potential uses. The research method includes the stages of exploration, identification and literature study to obtain the potential of the macroscopic fungi found. The research succeeded in finding 8 types of macroscopic fungi classified into the phylum Basidiomycota, 3 orders, 5 families, and 7 genera. The macroscopic fungi include Coprinellus sp., Lentinus sp., Panus sp., Schizophyllum commune, Pycnoporus sp., Fomitopsis sp. 1, Fomitopsis sp. 2, and Lycoperdon sp. Based on the results of the literature study, the potential uses of macroscopic fungi were found are as food, medicine, natural pigment producer, and enzyme producer. This data report can be used as basic information on the use of macroscopic mushrooms by communities around the area to be used as food or medicinal ingredients. Further utilization of this data is the development of the potential of macroscopic fungi that produce enzymes, pigments or drugs to be produced on a large scale. Research on the development of potential mushroom conservation strategies can also be carried out for sustainable use.

Antiproliferative and Antibacterial Activity of Polyporoid Fungi from Veracruz, Mexico

Polyporoid fungi represent a vast source of bioactive compounds with potential pharmacological applications. The importance of polyporoid fungi in traditional Chinese medicine has led to an extensive use of some species of Ganoderma for promoting health and longevity because their consumption is associated with several bioactivities. Nevertheless, bioactivity of some other members of the Polyporaceae family has also been reported. This work reports the antiproliferative and antibacterial activity of crude extracts obtained from fruiting bodies of polypore fungi collected from the central region of Veracruz, Mexico, aimed at understanding the diversity of polypore species with potential pharmacological applications. 29 collections were identified macro- and microscopically in 19 species of polyporoid fungi, belonging to 13 genera. The antiproliferative activity screening of extracts against solid tumor cell lines (A549, SW1573, HeLa, HBL-100, T-47D, WiDr) allow us to identify four extracts with strong bioactivity [half-maximal growth inhibition (GI50) ≤ 50 μg/mL]. After this, a phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences from the ITS region obtained from bioactive specimens allowed us to identify three extracts as Pycnoporus sanguineus (GI50 = ≤ 10 μg/mL) and the fourth bioactive extract as Ganoderma oerstedii (GI50 = < 50 μg/mL. Likewise, extracts from P. sanguineus showed mild or moderate antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Xanthomonas albilineas. Bioprospecting studies of polyporoid fungi add to the knowledge of the diversity of macrofungi in Mexico and allow us to select one of the bioactive P. sanguineus to continue the pursuit of bioactive compounds through mycochemical studies.
