“…Scales of Mallomonas bangladeshica are very similar to those of M. peronoides except for a unique appendage on the anterior portion of the thickened ridge; this appendage is subcircular in shape and most often with umbrella-like arms (Takahashi & Hayakawa 1979;Wujek & Timpano 1984). The appendage has been referred to as a "hemi-spherical ornament" (Takahashi & Hayakawa 1979) and a "grapnel-like'' structure (Wujek & Timpano 1984), and the scales possessing it as "perfect" scales (Takahashi & Hayakawa 1979). On some scales the appendage is often more conical, smaller, and not divided into lobes, or missing; Takahashi & Hayakawa (1 979) referred to these scales as "imperfect".…”
