Polysaccharides from the species of Boletaceae (Boletales, Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota) are economically significant to both functional foods and medicinal industries. The crude polysaccharide from Butyriboletus pseudospeciosus (BPP) was prepared, and its physicochemical properties were characterized through the use of consecutive experimental apparatus, and its impact on the gut microbiota of Kunming mice was evaluated. Analyses of the structure characteristics revealed that BPP was mainly composed of Man, Glc, and Gal, possessing the pyranose ring and β/α-glycosidic linkages. TG analysis exhibited that BPP had great heat stability. The SEM observation performed demonstrated that BPP appeared with a rough, dense, and porous shape. Through the BPP intervention, the serum and fecal biochemical index in mice can be improved obviously (p < 0.05). The abundance of beneficial microbiota in the BPP-treated group was significantly increased, while the abundance of harmful microbiota was significantly decreased (p < 0.05). Based on the Tax4Fun, we also revealed the relationship between the species of gut microbiota and showed that the high dose of BPP has significantly changed the functional diversities compared with those in other groups (p < 0.05). The results suggest that B. pseudospeciosus could serve as potential functional food or medicine.

Investigating the mechanisms that underpin the diversity and distribution patterns of species is fundamental in ecology and evolution. However, the study of fungi, particularly the ectomycorrhizal group, has been relatively constrained in this field. We conducted a high-resolution phylogenomic analysis of Boletales, an ecologically and economically significant group of fungi, covering 83 genera across 15 families. We subsequently investigated its evolutionary history using sequences at four genes obtained from 984 species across 121 genera within 15 families. The findings unveiled that Boletales likely originated in Early Jurassic and underwent two remarkable episodes of rapid diversification, commencing in early Eocene (~54 Mya) and early Miocene (~17 Mya) epochs. The notable surges were predominantly driven by ectomycorrhizal clades, with a specific emphasis on East Asia and North America. These expansions were strongly correlated with the warm-humid paleoclimates during the Early Eocene Climatic Optimum and Mid-Miocene Climatic Optimum, as well as the rapid expansion of Fagales and Pinaceae hosts. This study provides novel insights into the spatiotemporal evolution of fungi, highlighting the synergistic impact of abiotic factors, such as warm and humid paleoclimates, and the biotic factor of rapid diversification of host plants on the fungal diversification.

Belitong Island, The Province of Bangka Belitung is one of the exotic places with the biodiversity which has not been optimally inventoried. One of the potential germplasm that has not been recorded properly on Belitong Island is the mushrooms diversity and their potential uses. Mushroom are known as non-timber forestry product that is often sought after by local ethnic of Belitong Island and used as food. Apart from being consumed, these wild mushrooms are also traded, so they are one of the important seasonal commodities for the local community. This research aimed to provide the basic taxonomical information of wild edible mushroom in Belitong island as well as the biological characters. Observations were conducted 2 times in 2018 – 2019 using opportunistic sampling method.The utilization data of wild edible mushroom were collected to complete the macrofungi description in this study. A number of 5 edible wild mushrooms with th eeconomic value reported in this study were: Amanita sect. caesarea (kulat pelandok), Heimioporus sp. (kulat pelawan), Hygrocybe cf. conica (kulat tiong), Phylloporus sp. (kulat sukatan), and Volvariella sp. (kulat sawit). Three species of fungi are ectomycorrhizal forming fungi, namely kulat pelandok with Schima wallichii, kulat pelawan with Tristaniopsis merguensis, and kulat sukatan which host is still unclear. Meanwhile the rest are saprophytic macrofungi. All wild edible mushrooms are members of the phylum Basidiomycota which are divided into 2 orders and 4 families. Heimioporus sp. is known to be the highest selling price mushroom compared to the others, which indicated the potential prospect to proceed to the cultivation stage. In addition, conservation management of plants that are hosts of ectomycorrhizal fungi need to be an important concern on Belitong Island.
