The General Prognosis of Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease Differs According to the Disease Localization

Abstract: a graft configuration was 50% in their series (2 of 4). The authors postulate that the well-known tendency for Dacron to dilate over time may be accentuated by the presence of an endograft. They suggest oversizing the endograft 20% and a proximal landing zone with at least 4 cm of overlap when the graft is landed in Dacron.

“…Apart from the limited patients number that precludes the safe extraction of comparative conclusions regarding the creation of collateral pathways between DM- and non-DM patients, our findings come in alignment with previous large retrospective studies, showing a certain lack of association between DM and aortoiliac disease. 31,32 Indeed, in a series of 2659 patients with arterial occlusive disease, Diehm et al. 31 found that iliac disease was associated significantly with younger age, male gender, and smoking, while infrageniculate disease was associated with higher age, male gender, and DM.…”

“…2 Patients with aortoiliac occlusive disease (AIOD) have a different risk factor burden and have greater rates of cardiovascular events compared with patients with more distal disease. [3][4][5] In addition, success rates of aortoiliac revascularization via the use of endovascular or traditional open techniques are superior to those of infrainguinal revascularization. 2 Therefore, enhanced detection of AIOD has the potential to improve clinical care of patients with PAD.…”
