The genera Rugonectria and Thelonectria (Hypocreales, Nectriaceae) in China

Abstract: Recent collections and herbarium specimens of Rugonectria and Thelonectria from different regions of China were examined. Using combined analyses of morphological and molecular data, 17 species are recognised including three species of Rugonectria and 14 species in Thelonectria. Amongst them, R.microconidia and T.guangdongensis are new to science. Rugonectriamicroconidia on mossy bark is characterised by superficial, yellow to orange, pyriform to subglobose perithecia with a warted surface; ellipsoidal to broa… Show more

“…Gams and Jaklitsch 60 critically addressed the problem of identifying and renaming of species on the basis of molecular analyses and gene bank deposits; this helps to explain our findings. The current detailed knowledge is due to the taxonomists who contributed significantly to the discovery of the diversity within the Nectriaceae in recent years 43 , 59 , 61 68 . It was beyond our goals and capacities to distinguish the isolates with an extended multi-locus analysis in combination with morphological features.…”

“…The obtained sequences of ITS, LSU, and rpb2 were assembled and submitted to BLASTn searches against the NCBI non-redundant database for identifying closely related taxa. Sequences data of related taxa were obtained from the literature (Põldmaa et al 2000, 2019, Tokiwa & Okuda 2005, Jaklitsch et al 2008, Põldmaa 2011, Taam & Põldmaa 2013, Sun et al 2019a, Vu et al 2019, Zeng & Zhuang 2019 and downloaded from the GenBank database (Table 2). The sequences were aligned using MAFFT version 7 (Katoh et al 2019) and manually edited via BioEdit version 7.0.9 (Hall 1999).…”

“…Bayesian analysis was performed using MrBayes v. 3.2.6 on XSEDE at the CIPRES with four simultaneous Markov Chains run for 5,000,000 generations. Phylogenetic trees were visualized with FigTree version 1.4.0 (http://tree.bio.ed.ac.uk/software/figtree/) and reorganized in Microsoft PowerPoint (2016).…”
