The gendered danger of illusion inThe Blithedale Romance(1852) andThe Mayor of Casterbridge(1886)

Abstract: studying the autobiographies of nineteenth-century magicians and representations of fictional magicians and conjuring in Victorian literature. She recently completed a placement contextualizing nineteenth-century playbills and periodical reviews at the British Library, and her other research interests include occulture, contemporary Japanese literature and fantasy fiction.
