The analysis of the Middle and Late Neolithic settlement pattern confirms the thesis of the significant role of the middle Kamienna river basin in the region of the Sandomierz Upland and the Iłża Forehills as the settlement base for banded flint mines in the area of Krzemionki Opatowskie. Some of the settlements of the Funnel Beaker culture located in the northern and central part of the Sandomierz Upland could be related to exploitation and processing of the: banded and the Świeciechów flint raw materials. The area of the right-bank tributaries of the Kamienna river is considered a settlement base for the prehistoric banded flint mines of the Globular Amphora culture. The surface survey and test excavation carried out in the middle course of the Kamienna river in the Iłża Forehills, as well as archaeological excavations in the mining field, showed the existence of quite numerous sites from the Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age.

This article attempts to reconstruct the functional relationships between human graves and animal deposits in the context of a Globular Amphora culture cemetery in Sadowie, Opatów District, Sandomierz Upland, Poland. A special characteristic of this cemetery is the grouping of graves into complexes, forming functional-chronological wholes. For the purpose of the study, three such complexes were selected: III (Graves 1 and 2), IV (Graves 5–4-3) and IX (Graves 8–7). Each consisted of a human burial and an accompanying animal deposit of mostly cattle remains. In the case of Complexes III and IX, the lack of stratigraphic relationships and similarity in cultural inventories suggest that they were built at short intervals. Complex IV in contrast, is characterised by a time spread between animal deposits and human burials, which is indicated by radiocarbon dates. The complexes of human graves and animal deposits find analogies in other sepulchral features in the Vistula drainage basin and areas settled by the other regional groups of the Globular Amphora culture at that time.

The article presents new results of radiocarbon dating for the settlement of the Globular Amphora culture from the Sandomierz Upland area. These are three determinations obtained for animal graves (No. 4, 7 and 11) coming from the site 23 in Sadowie near Opatow, where traces of a vast cemetery were discovered. 14C dating was established in the Poznań Radiocarbon Laboratory. The received values were verified by indicating diagnostic features in the composition of artefacts that are referenced in groups of other features of the Globular Amphora culture.
