The Functional Role of Long Non-coding RNA UCA1 in Human Multiple Cancers: a Review Study

Abstract: : In various cancers, high-grade tumor and poor survival rate in patients with upregulated lncRNAs UCA1 have been confirmed. Urothelial carcinoma associated 1 (UCA1) is an oncogenic non-coding RNA with a length of more than 200 nucleotides. The UCA1 regulate critical biological processes that are involved in cancer progression, including cancer cell growth, invasion, migration, metastasis, and angiogenesis. So It should not surprise that UCA1 overexpresses in variety of cancers type, including pancreatic cance… Show more

“…[8][9][10] Recently, increasing numbers of studies have revealed the dysregulation of lncRNA expression in almost all types of human cancer, and their aberrant expression is required for inducing malignancy and tumorigenesis. 11 In NSCLC, lncRNAs play cancer suppressive or carcinogenic roles and thus affect the onset and progression of NSCLC. 12 MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a family of endogenous, single-stranded, and noncoding RNA molecules that consist of approximately 17-25 nucleotides.…”

“…Previously, lncRNAs were considered to be useless byproducts of genome transcription; however, an increasing amount of evidence has shown the important roles of lncRNAs in physiological and pathological biological processes 8–10 . “…Apart from these, lncRNA UCA1 has been detected to be overexpressed in various cancers, particularly GI cancers, such as CRC, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and GC [17][18][19]. Among lncRNAs, lncRNA UCA1 has been demonstrated to have significant regulatory roles in cancer progression, including cell proliferation, invasion, migration and metastasis, and chemoresistance in BLS-211 BC cells [13].…”

“…Recently, some studies have shown that UCA1 is abnormally expressed in many cancers, for example, colorectal carcinoma, cervical carcinoma, and GC [ 4 6 ]. Although previous reports have indicated that high-UCA1 expression might exert an oncogenic effect in the pathogenic process of GC and act as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker [ 7 ], the precise pathophysiological functions and detailed signaling pathways of UCA1 in GC remain to be determined.…”
