School violence is singled out by many researchers as an area of salient concern, both nationally and internationally. Moreover, learner-on-educator violence has become a phenomenon of great concern in schools worldwide; and no school is ruled out of this challenge. Various studies in the field of school violence focus on the safety of learners at schools, with inadequate attention paid to violence perpetrated against educators in school environments. Although some local studies on school-related violence do focus on educator-on-learner violence and the causes thereof, little or no studies have been conducted on coping strategies to deal with this concern. This literature study focused on learner-on-educator violence in South African schools and the coping strategies that educators use or can use to manage and restrict violence perpetrated against them. Located in the constructivist research paradigm, this study emanated from an empirical study by the authors on how educators, as victims of school violence, experience and understand learner-on-educator violence in the school environment. The findings of the current study revealed that South African educators use different coping strategies such as departmental directives; collegial support; in-school training programmes; monitoring of classroom access; collaboration with the school environment and participation of parents. It is concluded that these strategies are pertinent in stimulating the reduction of learner-on-educator violence in South African schools.

Abstract-This research examined quantitatively in-port grain loading levels during the periods preceding and succeeding selected human-made and natural disasters among U.S. Gulf Coast ports. The array of selected disasters consisted of the 2010 British Petroleum oil spill, the 2011 Mississippi River flood, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Gustav, and Hurricane Isaac. The outcomes of the analyses showed that the examined in-port Gulf Coast grain loading activities have not fully recovered and achieved the level of normalcy that existed before the examined cataclysms.

Οι μαθητές με μαθησιακές δυσκολίες (ΜΔ) εκδηλώνουν μεγάλο εύρος δυσκολιών σε επιμέρους τομείς του γραπτού λόγου, οι οποίες οφείλονται σε ποικίλους παράγοντες. Αναφορικά με τον τομέα της ανάγνωσης, οι φτωχές δεξιότητες αποκωδικοποίησης και αναγνώρισης λέξεων, το περιορισμένο λεξιλόγιο, οι περιορισμένες αντιλήψεις σχετικά με τη δομή του κειμένου, οι αναποτελεσματικές στρατηγικές προσέγγισης οδηγούν σε ελλειπή κατανόηση κειμένου και κατ’ επέκταση στην αδυναμία κατάκτησης της αναγνωστικής δεξιότητας. Σήμερα, μεγάλος αριθμός ερευνών επιβεβαιώνει τη σημασία της ακεραιότητας του φωνολογικού συστήματος και της σωστής λειτουργίας της επεξεργασίας αυτών των πληροφοριών, που είναι αποθηκευμένες με ένα καλά κατηγοριοποιημένο τρόπο και βοηθούν στην καλή αποκωδικοποίηση των γραπτών λέξεων. Εξίσου, επιβεβαιώνεται ότι με την ικανότητα ανάγνωσης και την κατανόηση των κειμένων συνδέεται άρρηκτα η Εργαζόμενη Μνήμη, καθώς όποια και αν είναι η κατάσταση της αποκωδικοποίησης, η Εργαζόμενη Μνήμη επιτρέπει τη διατήρηση πληροφοριών, ώστε να χρησιμοποιηθούν όταν και εφόσον παρουσιαστεί κάποιο πρόβλημα κατά την κατανόηση. Κύριο σκοπό της παρούσας έρευνας αποτέλεσε η μελέτη και ανάδειξη συσχέτισης της Φωνολογικής Ενημερότητας και της Εργαζόμενης Μνήμης με την αναγνωστική ικανότητα μαθητών πρώτης σχολικής ηλικίας με Μαθησιακές Δυσκολίες σε δίγλωσσο εκπαιδευτικό περιβάλλον. Επιπρόσθετα, κύριο ζητούμενο αποτέλεσε η εξαγωγή ορθών αποτελεσμάτων και κατάλληλων συμπερασμάτων, τα οποία σε ακολουθία ανάλογων ευρημάτων της διεθνούς βιβλιογραφίας θα συμβάλουν ώστε να τεθούν προβληματισμοί για περαιτέρω έρευνα των παραγόντων που επηρεάζουν το επίπεδο αναγνωστικής ικανότητας των μαθητών με Μαθησιακές Δυσκολίες. Για την συλλογή των δεδομένων κατάλληλα σταθμισμένα ψυχομετρικά εργαλεία χορηγήθηκαν σε ένα ικανοποιητικό δείγμα μαθητών πρώτης σχολικής ηλικίας και γονέων και εκπαιδευτικών, σε σχολεία της Κύπρου.Τα αποτελέσματα της επεξεργασίας των δεδομένων ανέδειξαν στατιστικά σημαντική συσχέτιση μεταξύ της φωνολογικής ενημερότητας και της εργαζόμενης μνήμης σε Κύπριους μαθητές με μαθησιακές δυσκολίες. Αξιολογώντας τα ευρήματα της παρούσας έρευνας, κρίνεται σημαντική η συμβολή τους αφενός στην κατανόηση των σύνθετων αλληλεπιδράσεων των παραπάνω παραγόντων στην εκδήλωση των μαθησιακών δυσκολιών και αφετέρου, στην εφαρμογή κατάλληλων μορφών παρέμβασης στην εκπαιδευτική πράξη.
