The case presented includes a left temporal bone from an individual exhumed from the Hispano‐Mudejar necropolis in Uceda (Guadalajara, Spain) dated between the 13th and 14th centuries bc. External examination and computed tomography images show lesions in the external acoustic canal, in the form of diffuse widening, suggestive of a cholesteatoma originating in this canal, with invasion of the middle ear through the tympanic membrane. The difficulties with examining the internal elements of the ear are discussed, which causes the underestimation of these diseases in paleopathology studies.

Mục tiêu: Đánh giá kết quả phẫu thuật nội soi mở hòm nhĩ trên bệnh nhân có cholesteatoma nguyên phát khu trú ở hòm nhĩ. Phương pháp nghiên cứu: Nghiên cứu mô tả và nghiên cứu can thiệp lâm sàng, không có nhóm chứng, lấy mẫu thuận tiện. Địa điểm nghiên cứu: Bệnh viện Tai Mũi Họng Trung Ương, thời gian nghiên cứu từ 2018-2023. Bệnh nhân nghiên cứu: 33 bệnh nhân. Kết quả nghiên cứu: Cholesteatoma nguyên phát thường được phát hiện ở bệnh nhân nhỏ tuổi, trung bình 3,2 ± 1,4 tuổi; Tất cả các bệnh nhân được theo dõi ít nhất 1 tháng thấy màng nhĩ đều liền kín, chưa có trường hợp nào xảy ra tai biến trong và sau phẫu thuật; chưa phát hiện tình trạng tái phát cholesteatoma. Kết luận: Phẫu thuật nội soi mở hòm nhĩ trên bệnh nhân có cholesteatoma nguyên phát là phẫu thuật an toàn, đem lại kết quả tốt, bệnh nhân trải qua giai đoạn hậu phẫu nhẹ nhàng với tỷ lệ tai biến thấp và tỷ lệ tái phát không cao.
