The Factors of Growth of Small Family Businesses - A Robust Estimation of the Behavioural Consistency in Panel Data Models

Abstract: The paper quantifies the role of factors associated with the growth (or decline) of micro and small businesses in European economies. The growth is related to the levels of employment and value added in enterprises, as well as, ten institutional variables. We test the data for consistency of behavioural patterns in various countries and gradually remove outlying observations that can lead to erroneous conclusions when using the classic estimators; this is a quite unique approach in panel data analysis. In the … Show more

“…En los estudios recientes ha aumentado el método de la encuesta. Por ejemplo, Benácek & Michalíková (2016) realizaron un estudio con análisis de datos panel aplicando el método de estimación de efectos fijos cuadrados, con pruebas econométricas para conocer los factores de crecimiento de las empresas familiares.…”

“…The city has a direct impact on the farmer as it accumulates almost all available opportunities to replenish the inventory and equipment, purchase household and industrial products, attract credit resources, etc. All this gives grounds to consider large urban communities in local food systems to be the main centres where infrastructure facilities for processing agricultural products and food consumption [20][21][22], along with gross income, investment capital, skilled labour and scientific potential, are concentrated [23][24].…”

“…The research on robust estimators in panel data regression model have been carried out by Aquaro and Čížek [1],Bramati and Croux [6], Bakar and Midi [7], Čížek [8], Verardi and Wagner [9]. The least trimmed squares (LTS) estimator method is one of the robust parameter estimation methods of outliers that has a high breakdown point (BDP) compared to other parameter estimation methods [1], [9]. In panel data regression with a fixed effects model, Bramati and Croux [6] also Aquaro and Čížek [1] used within-group generalized M (WGM) estimators as an alternative to classical estimators in the within-groupmethod.…”
