Investigation of metal extrusion and axial compression of compressible media by means of a modified slab method C. Axmann, V. Mannl Summary A modi®ed slab method for the investigation of the axisymmetric forming of compressible materials is introduced. It is based on the elementary slab method, the main difference being the additional variable relative density, describing the porosity. The material itself is modeled as rigid-plastic, with a yield condition given by [6]. Reasonable assumptions lead to a model for the forward extrusion and axial compression of powder metals. The results achieved with appropriate material parameters for copper powder correspond with experimental experience.
