The Extra-Logical Strategy Constructed by Kant to Define Concepts and Intuitions as Inversely Polar Representations

Abstract

The reader is generallyimpressed by the confidence with which Kant begins one of the principal divisions of the Critique of Pure Reason i. e. Transcendental Aestheticsc onducted by twop rocedures namedm etaphysical exposition and transcendental exposition. Accustomed to the qualifying adjective transcendental-which permeates all of the Critique-we are inclined to believethatonlyatranscendental exposition could furnish us with something worthyofthe term proof since it examines the conditions of the possibilityofthe two sciences,Mathematics and Physics,tobeconsidered as given. Because of this we can accept as dogmatic the metaphysical exposition, admitt hat it begins with the decomposition of the concepts (spaceand time) which we could consider as something originally given, but apparentlyi mpossible to analyze (unauflöslich). We could thereforea sk ourselves: how could Kant discursively analyze concepts thatw ould become the basiso ft ranscendental knowledge?T ranscendentality in Kant is theoreticallyc ircumscribed by the intersection of two sciences: Mathematics and Physics.
