The aim of the study is to examine the studies on the caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia in the "Web of Science" database using the bibliometric method. Studies registered in the Web of Science database between 20-05-2013 and 20-05-2023 were included in this descriptive study. “Caregivers of Patients with Schizophrenia” was typed into the search engine and proceeded with the data of 1020 articles obtained. In this study, which included descriptive statistical data with the bibliometric analysis method, the relationship and development trends of the studies in the literature were determined by using co-citation and co-occurance. The results of the research show that there are a number of articles dealing with issues such as stress, mental health, need for social support and care burdens of caregivers of schizophrenia patients. In addition, studies on the education levels, experiences and care strategies of caregivers of patients with schizophrenia are also noteworthy. Research has also been conducted on the roles and experiences of family members, healthcare professionals, and community-based organizations among caregivers of patients with schizophrenia. In conclusion, the bibliometric analysis of caregivers of schizophrenia patients reveals the size of studies in this field, publication trends and important research topics. More research on caregivers of schizophrenic patients will contribute to policy and practice development in this area. This research can form an important basis for better support and services for caregivers of people with schizophrenia.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) lacks a clear understanding of the disease‘s pathogenesis and effective treatments thus producing frustration among providers and patients, leading to the stigmatization of the disease and the patients with the syndrome. A literature search was performed to make a hermeneutical review on empathic patient-provider communication and IBS. The relationship is defined by partners being dependent on one another in the pursuit of obtaining good outcomes. It is a unique interaction depending not only on the individual qualities of each partner but also on the specific patterns of the patient-physician synergy. Empathy is crucial for any relationship. It helps to recognize the other as the other of myself, a person like me. Meanwhile, stigmatization results from identifying and labelling human differences and stereotyping persons who are linked to undesirable characteristics. IBS is at high risk of stigmatization in various contexts and settings including health care, causing patients and physicians misconceptions and distress, which in turn leads to the worsening of the disease in patients and burnout in physicians. Narrative-based medicine helps create a holistic perspective of a patient’s problems and health, thus providing a tool for an empathic doctor-patient relationship that fosters mutual understanding and helps patients with IBS make sense of symptoms, increases their ability to manage their IBS in a psychologically flexible manner, subsequently helping them maintain their quality of life.

La presente investigación tuvo como propósito explorar el fenómeno del autoestigma en usuarios con Trastorno Mental Grave y Duradero (TMGD) del Instituto Jalisciense de Salud Mental en México. El presente estudio tuvo un diseño de corte mixto, correlacional, transversal, el cual fue realizado en el Centro de Atención Integral en Salud Mental Estancia Prolongada (CAISAME E.P.). La muestra de participantes fue seleccionada de forma propositiva, con un muestreo no probabilístico a conveniencia, por el cual se incluyeron un total 64 individuos diagnosticados con TMGD. Resultados: La media de puntos en la escala ISS se situó en 85.84. El 57.8% de los participantes mostraron un autoestigma alto o muy alto. La experiencia del estigma internalizado fue estadísticamente significativa (p ≤ .05). Conclusiones: Se deben realizar intervenciones institucionales que atiendan el fenómeno del autoestigma en los usuarios y sus familias, y utilizar nuevos conceptos como el de reestigmatización o estigmatización secundaria para estudiar de una forma más precisa cómo están implicados los profesionales de la salud mental en la cristalización del estigma internalizado
