The examination of the effect of platelet rich plasma for curing achilles tendons of free moving rats after surgical ıncision and treatment

Abstract: It is thought that PRP use in Achilles tendon ruptures positively affects histopathological recovery in the early period, but that it does not produce the same biomechanical effect. We believe that PRP use for qualified tendon recovery is histopathologically beneficial.

“…The standard staining protocol was based on hematoxylin and eosin, while the most popular additional staining method was Alcian Blue [1,[34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][43][44][45][46][47]49] The second most frequent method was Masson Trichrome [16,34,36,[38][39][40][42][43][44]47,50]. Other staining methods, such as Picrosirius red Verhoeff van Gieso, Gridley method, Gomori method, Safranin, Toluidine Blue, and Alizarin Red, were rather rare [37,44].…”

“…Most of the collected studies included an assessment of the tendons' histopathology based on the classical Bonar score with four variables [1,16,34,36,[38][39][40][41][42][43][44][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53]. However, a few authors aimed to modify the classical assumptions of the scoring system in order to improve the diagnostics and microscopic evaluation.…”

“…However, on biomechanical examination, no significant differences were found between the group of PRP mice and control on days 15 and 30, so it was concluded that PRP was beneficial in tendon recovery in the initial phase and only slightly increased tendon strength. In this study, immobilization in rats was not carried out so that this could have an effect on the healing of tendons (Yuksel et al, 2015).…”

“…After the open repair of an Achilles tendon’s full-thickness rupture, there is a long recovery time and high rates of re-rupture, resulting in severe disability and long-term workforce loss. [ 3 ] Although many studies have been conducted on tendon healing in recent years and many medical options such as pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, glucosamine chondroitin sulfate, platelet-rich plasma, intermittent pneumatic compression, low-molecular-weight heparin and rivaroxaban have been investigated, it is still unclear in the literature how to treat Achilles tendon rupture.
