Objective: Point of care (POC) is bogged down because of ineffective biohazard containment, insufficient environmental robustness, test clusters-cartridges unable to target rapidly emerging diseases, unpredictable errors in bedside results, dependence on misleading global parametric rather than local nonparametric statistical analysis, high marginal costs cited without assessing overall value, inadequately funded POC research, regulatory-industry intransigence, dichotomous introduction of new instruments abroad versus the United States, and meager interest in critical global challenges. The objective is to push back on these classic signs of an interrupted paradigm shift. They threaten the future of the field, this journal, and the ultimate goal, to improve medical and economic outcomes. Methods:We offer a geospatial method, Spatial Care Paths™ (SCPs), by which a portion of the future of POC can be reinvigorated interactively in cultural context. Outcomes: The Ebola epidemic revealed serious gaps in technology andswiftly changed expectations. Expectations are part of culture. Hence, the future paradigm must embrace POC culture. We provide paradigmrefreshing conceptual examples ranging from national disaster caches to diabetes care to outbreaks. We use visual logistics to illustrate the concepts and SCPs.Conclusions: By identifying weak links in the chain of community resilience, SCPs upscale key unfulfilled needs, discover new ideas for innovation-invention, bolster educational outreach, and improve patient access to evidence-based primary, emergency, and hospital care. Strong collaborative initiatives can foster activism in the global community. It is time for insightful leadership and participative outreach to bridge professional disciplines, span different countries, and steward POC into a brilliant new future.

Introduction: Diagnostic point- of- care (POC) tests are considered as an approach to ease the diagnosis of diseases, deliver quicker patient care, and improve patient safety. The aim of this study was to review the diagnostic POC tests with an approach to data management.Material and Methods: In this review study, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Wolters Kluwer databases were searched from 2000 to 2020 using a combination of related keywords. A total of 96 articles were retrieved of which 48 articles considered as relevant. The content of these articles were then analyzed with respect to the aim of the study. The inclusion criteria for the articles were: 1) they focused the POC test; 2) addressed data management aspects; 3) written in English. Articles that only addressed the POC tests from a clinical or technical perspective and with no indication of data management were excluded.Results: Rapid and timely collection and processing of test results, the capability of exchanging test results, and capabilities such as documentation and data quality control play a significant role in reducing the average length of stay in hospital, planning, decision-making, organizing, controlling clinical and managerial activities, and achieving the efficiency of services provided.Conclusion: In addition to applying diagnostic POC tests technologies, medical settings should have necessary approaches for managing data generated by these technologies to improve better use of data in service delivery.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common nosocomial infection in North America leading to over $12 billion in annual health care costs. UTIs can significantly reduce the quality of life and, in severe cases, result in sepsis and mortality. According to Public Health Ontario, over 80% of long‐term care home (LTCH) residents with asymptomatic bacteriuria are treated with antibiotics, however, less than 50% of the antibiotic treatments for UTIs show clinical benefit. Current confirmatory processes for UTIs are primarily dependent on the completion of urine cultures which can result in a delay of more than 24 h. Therefore, there is a need to develop new efficient diagnostic methods to provide timely test results and prevent multidrug resistance. Emerging nanomaterials with special physical and chemical properties have demonstrated great potential in rapid detection of UTI‐associated bacteria. This review paper provides a thorough analysis of current diagnostic tools for UTIs. Emerging nanostructured biosensors are reviewed to elucidate the most recent progress in the detection of uropathogens. It is believed that advanced biosensors integrated with nanotechnology will contribute to the timely diagnosis of UTIs and improve the accuracy of the results, which will lead to better treatment of this prevalent clinical condition.
