The European Radiological Data Exchange Platform (EURDEP): 25 years of monitoring data exchange

Abstract: Abstract. During the early phase of an accident with the release of radioactive material to the environment at the local or transboundary scale, a rapid and continuous system of information exchange, including real-time monitoring data to competent authorities and the public, is critical for setting up countermeasures. This information and data exchange must be carried out in a harmonized and consistent manner to facilitate its interpretation and analysis. After the Chernobyl accident in 1986, and in order to … Show more

“…According to [20], KPIs are the most efficient way of measuring building performance indicators. For instance, at the building level, the 2010 EPBD recast [46], European Commission [47], and Building Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) [48] supported the move forward to smart buildings (SBs). The EPBD has introduced SRI in buildings to measure the performance of SBs.…”

“…Beyond the aforementioned nations, the development of emergency DSSs for NPPs has seen the emergence of key institutions. There are two such entities in accident management and radiological data exchange: CEDIM (https://www.cedim.kit.edu/english/index.php (accessed on 15 May 2024) [235]) and EURDEP (https://remon.jrc.ec.europa.eu/About/ Rad-Data-Exchange (accessed on 15 May 2024) [236]). CEDIM, the Center for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction Technology, prioritizes the advancement of technologies for disaster management and risk mitigation.…”

“…The arrangement and spatial density of networks dealing with atmospheric nuclear and radiological releases varies from country to country according to the needs and criteria defined by national authorities. An example of this variability is easily seen by visiting the European Radiological Data Exchange Platform (EURDEP), which is the near-real-time exchange system for unvalidated radiological monitoring data from most European countries (Sangiorgi et al, 2020). These networks must be able to detect gradual changes, background patterns and extreme values affecting the population and/or environment during an emergency.…”
