The EU Horizon 2020 project GRACE: integrated oil spill response actions and environmental effects

Abstract: This article introduces the EU Horizon 2020 research project GRACE (Integrated oil spill response actions and environmental effects), which focuses on a holistic approach towards investigating and understanding the hazardous impact of oil spills and the environmental impacts and benefits of a suite of marine oil spill response technologies in the cold climate and ice-infested areas of the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea. The response methods considered include mechanical collection in water and below ice, in… Show more

“…In order to investigate the influence of chemical dispersant application on genotoxicity, the two third-generation dispersants Finasol OSR 51 ® and 52 ® (Total Special Fluids, Paris la Défense, France) were used [32,33]. The dispersants were selected within the framework of the EU-funded project GRACE (integrated oil spill response actions and environmental effects) [34] due to their relevance in the study region (Baltic Sea, northern Atlantic Ocean). Additionally, Miglyol 812 ® (Caesar and Loetz GmbH, Hilden, Germany) was used as an inert oil, which is composed of medium-chain triglycerides, mainly fitting physical characteristics of the less viscous NNS.…”

“…Oil spills are a major threat to the marine ecosystems, local communities and economy (Samiullah, 1985;Farrington, 2014;Jørgensen et al, 2019;Câmara et al, 2021;Sandifer et al, 2021). The research into the consequences of oil pollution has been long and extensive.…”
