“…These results were highly correlated with the variations of FPKM values in the organ-specific transcriptome dataset since the Pearson correlation R value of the two results were all higher than 0.85 ( Supplementary Table 7 ). Similar expression quantification result of ERF1 was also obtained in a study analyzing the function of ERF1 in cold tolerance of bermudagrass ( Hu et al, 2020 ), which further verified the correctness of our results.…”

“…Additionally, the BRs-regulated bHLH transcription factors CESTA and BZR1 stimulate the transcription of CBFs genes, which activate the expression of cold responsive genes (Eremina et al 2016;Li et al 2017). Consistent with the ndings of these studies, our data showed that exogenous melatonin upregulated the expression of DREB1A, ERF1, ERF109, MYB108, MYB4, WRKY30, WRKY53, bZIP73, ZAT6, and MADS57 and several genes that encod dehydrin (Supplementary Table S3); these genes have been reported to be involved in abiotic stress, including cold and drought stress (Shi et al 2015;Xu et al 2019;Liu et al 2019;Wang et al 2019;Hu et al 2020). These results suggest that melatonin and BRs function together in response to cold and drought stress, in which melatonin induces the accumulation of BRs and subsequently activates a wide range of stress-responsive genes.…”

“…Similar findings have been reported in bermudagrass; CdERF1 improved cold tolerance by regulating stress-associated gene expression levels, relieving reactive oxygen species (ROS) damage, and improving the antioxidant system [30]. These earlier findings suggest that cold tolerance of a plant is particularly dependent on ethylene.…”
