“…On the eutopic endometrium, the ethanol extract of P. americana seeds increased epithelial height while the levels of estradiol were found lower than those of the negative control at the doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg. However, values of serum levels of estradiol obtained at these doses (112 ± 16.3 and 142 ± 1.5 ng/ml induced at 25 and 50 mg/kg, respectively) remained close to those of sham-operated animals (220 ± 16.00 ng/ml) and the normal control group (266 ± 16.00 ng/ml), but far to the level usually observed in ovariectomized rats (58 ± 8.27 ng/ml) [20]. ese moderately high levels of estradiol may be responsible for cell hypertrophy observed on the uterine epithelium of animals treated with the ethanol extract of P. americana seeds.…”

“…ree doses (12.5, 25, and 50 mg/kg) of the ethanol extract of P. americana seeds were administered to rats. At these doses, the ethanol extract of P. americana seeds was found to prevent tamoxifen-induced endometrial hyperplasia in rats [20]. e method described by Pereira et al [25] was used to induce endometriosis.…”

“…The appearance of these cells depends on the histological changes that the vaginal epithelium undergoes in relation to the hormonal (estradiol) fluctuations occurring at the different stages of the estrous cycle [33,34]. In addition, our previous studies showed that in animals confined in the same group for several days, the estrous cycles are synchronized and this was evidenced by the appearance of identical histological changes of the vaginal epithelium within the same group [35,36]. Therefore, results on the estrous cycle in this study, show the most represented phase of the estrous cycle in each group.…”

“…Forty-two female Wistar rats were ovariectomized (OVX) as described by Mvondo et al [ 35 ], and six other were subjected to a simple laparotomy (sham-operated). After two weeks of postsurgical treatments, the animals were randomly distributed into 8 groups of 6 animals each as follows: SHAM: sham-operated animals, receiving distilled water (10 ml/kg) [OVX]: Ovariectomized (ovx) rats receiving distilled water (10 ml/kg) [OVX + E 2 V]: ovx rats receiving estradiol valerate (0.75 mg/kg) [OVX + E 2 V + TAM]: ovx rats receiving estradiol valerate (0.75 mg/kg) and tamoxifen (10 mg/kg) [OVX + E 2 V + AE25]: ovx rats receiving estradiol valerate (0.75 mg/kg) and the aqueous extract of D. edulis leaves at the dose of 25 mg/kg [OVX + E 2 V + AE50]: ovx rats receiving estradiol valerate (0.75 mg/kg) and the aqueous extract of D. edulis leaves at the dose of 50 mg/kg [OVX + E2V + AE100]: ovx rats receiving estradiol valerate (0.75 mg/kg) and the aqueous extract of D. edulis leaves at the dose of 100 mg/kg [OVX + E 2 V + AE200]: ovx rats receiving estradiol valerate (0.75 mg/kg) and the aqueous extract of D. edulis leaves at the dose of 200 mg/kg …”
