Abstract:Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is central for mineral metabolism and bone strength. Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHP) frequently accompanies chronic kidney disease (CKD), contributing to morbidity and mortality in patients. Our previous findings demonstrated that PT-Dicer-/-mice, with parathyroid specific deletion ofDicerand consequently microRNA, maintained normal serum PTH levels but failed to increase serum PTH in response to hypocalcemia and CKD, the major inducers of PTH secretion. Additionally, we elucidate… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
