The Epiphytic Lichenized Fungi in Armenia: Diversity and Conservation

Abstract: A total of 230 taxa of lichenized fungi are reported from epiphytic habitats in Armenia based on field studies from 2011 to 2015 and evaluation of the available literature. For each species, notes on taxonomy, chemistry, ecology, and local, regional and world distribution are presented, as well as presence in the protected areas of the country. An identification key for all species is added. Of the total, 219 are specialized epiphytes, rarely found on other substrates, while 11 species occur only incidentally … Show more

“…Sterile specimens are similar to C. reflexa which differs by its much larger, indistinctly effigurate thallus, crateriform soralia arising in the center of the thallus and larger soredia (Westberg, 2007). Candelariella efflorescens is a common species in Europe, North America, reported also from the Caucasus (Westberg, 2007;Gasparyan & Sipman, 2016;Ismailov et al, 2017). The specimen is sterile but well-developed and has delimited punctiform soralia.…”

“…The species was described from Afghanistan (Poelt & Wirth, 1968) and has a restricted distribution in dry-continental areas of Asia, in Armenia, Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Tajikistan (Poelt & Wirth 1968;Kudratov & Mayrhofer, 2002;Seaward et al, 2004;Gasparyan & Sipman, 2016). Most of specimens were collected from altitudes above 3000 m.…”
