“…In this study, the most affected anatomical site was the neck of the second and third MBs with 43%. More than one affected metatarsal represented 57% of our patients, which is also consistent with previous studies in the literature (1,10,11) . Factors such as obesity, female sex, diabetes mellitus, and degree of deviation may worsen postoperative clinical outcomes (18) .…”

“…These fractures are the most common forefoot fractures in motorcycle accidents (6) , but occur most commonly through low-energy trauma, resulting from direct trauma or simple twists (10) . In our study, 69% of patients were low-energy trauma victims and 31% experienced high-energy trauma, conforming to the data found in the literature (3,7,10) . The most widely used classification for these fractures is the topographic one, except for fractures located at the base of the fifth metatarsal (7) .…”

“…La fractura de los huesos metatarsianos es una de las lesiones más comunes que se pueden encontrar en el pie, con una incidencia de 6,7 fracturas por cada 10.000 personas 1 . El metatarsiano que con más frecuencia se fractura es el quinto metatarsiano (68%), seguido de los metatarsianos centrales (10%) y el primer metatarsiano (1,5%) 1 Robert Jones describió su propia patología en 1902, cuando se fracturó el quinto metatarsiano mientras bailaba 2 .…”

“…2 Metatarsal fractures occur with an incidence of 67/ 100,000 per year, and up to 70% involve the fifth metatarsal. 3 The entrance of the nutrient vessel at the junction of the proximal and middle one-third of the fifth metatarsal shaft corresponds to the area of diaphyseal stress fractures and may render the fracture site avascular. 4 Fractures of the fifth metatarsal have been shown to be susceptible to the development of pseudoarthrosis during the healing phase.…”
