“…only 14% of those patients. Igari et al 17 reported slightly higher rates of patients (17.2%, 10 of 58 patients treated with surgical interventions) treated with infrainguinal bypass. In this study, the procedure of AVB was indicated in 17.2% of all TAO patients admitted to our department during the past 10 years.…”

“…Graziani et al 9 reported on 20 limbs treated with ER that resulted in a 95.0% technical success rate, a gross amputation-free survival rate of 84.2%, and a 100% limb salvage rate during a mean follow-up period of 23 months. Igari et al 17 described a group of 58 patients treated with endovascular treatment and showed a gross major amputation rate of 6%. Compared with these two studies, we demonstrated a relatively lower amputation-free survival rate.…”

“…Furthermore, endovascular treatment could be applied in patients without a distal runoff artery or without an adequate venous conduit for bypass surgery [ 1 ]. For TAO patients with CLI, endovascular treatment has resulted in excellent technical success as well as limb salvage rates according to several case series [ 17 , 18 ]. However, there was a high rate of re-intervention affecting the process of ulcer healing, and long-term results for these procedures are lacking in the literature.…”

“…11) On the other hand, while there have been few epidemiological surveys of Buerger disease, which is a representative of peripheral artery disease, it has been examined in other types of studies. 12) The mechanism responsible for arteriosclerosis obliterans condition has been reported to be as follows: periodontal disease bacteria coaggregate in atherosclerosis lesions, adhere to vascular endothelial cells, and activate coagulation factor X, resulting in a tendency to clot; furthermore, Hgp44 adhesion on the surfaces of the bacteria gives rise to FcγRIIa production in platelets and platelet aggregation via IgG. 13) In other words, in arteriosclerosis obliterans, intimal injuries, such as the formation of atheroma, occur first, and the clinical condition develops due to the presence of periodontal disease bacteria.…”
