The EPC Sensor Network for RFID and WSN Integration Infrastructure

Abstract: Despite the popularity of current Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), current research fails to propose the global vision that is needed for truly pervasive computing. In this paper we introduce our effort to build a global standard infrastructure for WSN and RFID based on the EPCglobal standard Architecture Framework. By leveraging the EPC Network infrastructure, our proposed EPC Sensor Network will effectively provide standardized WSN/RFID integration framework to suppor… Show more

“…The IoT-A, ASPIRE, BRIDGE, SENSEI projects, sponsored by the outstanding firms, focus on IOT-related research and have focused on development, demonstration, and deployment activities. As the concept of IoT is given by Auto ID Center [1], the extension and integration issues that are based on EPCglobal architecture framework are usually discussed [8]- [10]. GS1 EPCglobal releases a collection of standards and uses Electronic Product Code (EPC) as tag data format.…”

“…The communication between the container and the remote server is push-based (because the MASC units are battery powered). The EPC Sensor Network [5] introduces a combined global standard infrastructure for WSNs and RFID systems based on the EPCglobal Architectural Framework [6] to support data sharing between partners. The EPC Sensor Network tries to add WSN support to the initial goals of the framework.…”

“…The ubiquitous service centers can be configured in controlled and relatively stable environments, such as homes, offices, or public areas that experience a high density of mobile users to provide ubiquitous services such as shown in Fig. 1 where a user is playing a game in a mobile device surrounded by sensor network and is equipped with situation awareness to seamlessly perform other activities [5].…”
