The environmental issue of pesticide residues in agricultural soils in Serbia

Abstract: Widespread use of pesticides in intensive agriculture indicates the need for permanent monitoring of their residues in soil. For this purpose, a total of 22 evenly distributed sampling points of arable land were chosen in the sampling area in Serbia. Soils were divided into groups according to the previous crop (pepper, vegetables, maize, wheat and soybean). Soil properties and residues of 68 pesticides, of which 22 herbicides, 25 insecticides and 21 fungicides, were analysed in the collected soil samples. The… Show more

“…PTC has been detected in small agricultural streams of Norway and Germany, where the median total concentration of 76 pesticides, including PTC, was 0.18 µg·L −1 in Germany, and rainfall events could increase their concentration by 10 times [ 7 , 8 ]. 36% of Serbia soil samples have PTC residues with a concentration of 0.08 ± 0.11 μg·kg −1 [ 9 ]. PTC and its metabolites were also detected in air samples from Germany [ 10 ].…”

“…Pesticides are frequently employed worldwide for managing pests. However, the extensive usage of pesticides has led to pesticide accumulation in agricultural soil which has adversely affected its fertility [3]. Apart from agricultural fields, pesticides are utilised in a variety of other settings as well, including industrial, household, and marine environments.…”
