The Environmental Atlas of the Corumbatai Watershed - Sp, Brazil

Abstract: The Corumbatai watershed (1.710 km2 ) in the State of São Paulo - Brazil, is a well known region, mainly because one of the branches of the São Paulo State University - UNESP is located there, where most of the departments are related on environmental sciences. “…The replacement of forests to agricultural uses goes back to early 19 th century, and nowadays the main agricultural land uses are sugarcane plantations and pasturelands. This region, however, has a very dynamic history, with cycles of different agricultural crops, mainly sugarcane, coffee, silviculture, and in smaller scale, row crops and fruticulture (GARCIA et al, 2006). Together with increasing urbanization, these dynamic cycles of high technological agriculture and recurrent impacts to forest remnants (such as regular fires and pesticides) have influenced the distribution of native vegetation along the basin.…”
